Job Title: Principal Structural Designer

Wage: £60,000 - £80,000 PER ANNUM, DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE

Hours: 40 HOURS PER WEEK

Description:

Duties will be to ensure that all studies, general arrangement and detail drawings produced by him/her or staff under his/her supervision comply with the technical and EHS requirements defined by the engineering team and are in accordance with the project and company procedures and standards. The job holder will check the accuracy and technical adequacy of design drawings, MTOs and interfaces with other disciplines or supplier documentation and present the attributes of the CAD system to assist in winning work. They will plan and manage the drawing production task on a project and estimate manhours required to perform design tasks.


The Principal Structural Designer will:
Identify and solve detailing problems in design. Manage a design budget to execute a scope of work. Record and communicate decisions to the team. Take responsibility and “own” his team’s work.
Train junior staff on the team. Manage conflict when encountered. Input to CB&I standards and procedures.


Applicants must have 10 years experience in a contractor’s design office in the offshore industry. This may include jackets, topsides, floating or subsea structures. Previous experience with a steel fabricator or in a construction yard would also be beneficial. Experience must include PDMS design and draft version 11.6 or later and a recent version of AutoCAD and must include previous experience of leading teams of structural designers. Must be able to estimate manhours for new projects and demonstrate an ability to plan deliverable output in a logical manner. Experience of other technical/non technical software e.g. MS Office including Excel, Word and Lotus Notes would be advantageous and an ability to write macros for PDMS and to prepare and upload new catalogue items is desirable but not essential.

Applicants must have HNC/ONC or City and Guilds equivalent (NQF level 4) in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent work experience

Experience in the Oil and Gas industry necessary, plus a detailed knowledge of multi discipline Oil and Gas Engineering Projects.
